The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School Children’s Summer Program has been a summer institution in our community for nearly 50 years.
The Adult School is proud of the Program’s longstanding history of providing a unique and enriching à-la-carte creative arts, academic, and sports program for children. The program also served to provide jobs for local teachers, as well as employment and training for youth leaders.
As with so many other things in our world, the COVID-19 pandemic impacted our Program and enrollment steadily declined. While we had hoped to run the program for 2024, enrollment was far lower than when the program last ran in 2022.
With such low enrollment, we would not have been able to meet our standards for providing a high-quality social experience in an environment for productive, creative and academically enriching experiences. Therefore, the Adult School has canceled the 2024 Children’s Summer Program.
The Adult School remains committed to providing programming as a community-based school for all ages. Our adult programming remains vibrant and inspiring and we will continue to explore how we can provide programming for children.
