SUMMER TEEN WORKSHOPS

FILM WORKSHOP

The South Orange-Maplewood Adult School's Summer Film Program is an immersive two-week workshop where students will learn how to generate ideas for their films and be introduced to the fundamentals of filmmaking. Students will collaborate with peers to produce professional-quality short films, gain hands-on experience with professional-grade equipment and build a portfolio. This is an excellent class for students who want to test the filmmaking waters. Space is limited. For 8th-12th graders. 

What to expect:

  • Collaborate with peers to produce professional-quality short films

  • Learn filmmaking essentials, including directing, cinematography, sound, lighting, and production design

  • Gain hands-on experience with professional-grade filmmaking equipment

  • Build a portfolio that stands out for college applications and student film festivals

Session 1: June 23 - July 3*

Session 2: July 7 - July 18

Hours: 9am - 4pm; there will be an hour lunch break each day.

*hours will increase on some days in the first session to compensate for the July 4th holiday.

ACTING WORKSHOP

Session I: June 23 - July 3 10:00am - 11:30am

Learn the fundamentals of improvisation and essential stage performance techniques from memorization and diction to character creation and diction to character creation and vocal attack. Work on your theatrical movement and proxemics! And even a little stage combat!

COST: $180.

Session II: July 7 - July 18 10:00am - 12pm

Apply the fundamentals from Acting I to Monologue and Duologue performances. Develop your tone and your relationship with your audience! Analyze your scripts, and build a repertoire for future auditions! Learn about your performance range!

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT

The course will include an assessment of previous work, 1:1 conferencing, and in-class work time embedded.

Come and create in an inclusive, generative, and communal environment! Live critiques, access to studio art supplies, and adequate work/storage space included!

Session I: July 14 - July 18 9am-3pm (1 hour for lunch)

Session II: July 21 - July 25 9am - 3pm (1 hour for lunch)
